Day 1. 29th November 2026 Portsmouth
Our road trip of a lifetime starts with us meeting at 8pm on 17th March at the port of Portsmouth at to board our ferry to Santander (Spain) which sails at 22.45. This is a 33hr crossing and includes an internal cabin allowing for some quality rest.
Day 2. 30th November 2026 On Ship
Today is a full day onboard as we continue our journey south towards Spain.
With the Land Rovers safely tucked away below deck, it’s a chance to relax, enjoy the ship, grab some food and drinks, and start getting to know the rest of the group.
There’s no driving, no tents to put up and no early start to worry about — just a day to unwind while the miles disappear beneath us.
It’s also a good opportunity to talk through the adventure ahead, compare Land Rovers, discuss equipment and start looking forward to what’s coming.
By the end of the day we’ll be considerably further south, with Spain getting closer and Morocco waiting just beyond it.
Tomorrow the wheels start turning again and the adventure continues.
Day 3. 1st December 2026 Santander-Plascencia 300 Miles
Arriving at Santander port at 08.00am approximatley we will disembark our ferry and regroup before we make our way down the N-611 through Northern Spain passing through Reinosa and on to Salamanca then down to Plascencia. Here we will camp for our first night on Spanish soil.
Day 4. 2nd December 2026 -Plascencia-Gibraltar 320 Miles
A good day’s driving today, but to get to Africa we need to get them covered. Travelling in small groups will give us some great photo opportunities along today’s route. We will depart Salamanca at around 9am and continue our journey towards Seville along the E-803 passing through some stunning Spanish towns including Merida and . Stopping for the evening at our campsite 125 miles from Gibraltar.
Day 5. 3rd December 2026 Gibraltar-Tangier(Ferry Crossing)
A drive down to Gibraltar this morning see us arrive at midday There will be some time to refuel vehicles and us before we catch the 3pm ferry to Tangiers Morocco. Once in Tangier we will head to our overnight camp stopping for the evening @ Camping Miramon.
Day 6. 4th December 2026. Tangier Rest Day
A rest day today to spend as you wish but here are a few suggestions, Explore the winding alleys of the Medina and the hilltop Kasbah for historic views. Visit the Tangier American Legation, the only US National Historic Landmark abroad, or sip mint tea at the iconic Café Hafa. Nature lovers should head to Cape Spartel and the mythical Hercules Caves. For a local vibe, people-watch at the Grand Socco or stroll the Corniche along the beach. If you have time, take a day trip to the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen or the artistic seaside town of Asilh.
Day 7 – 5th December 2026 Tangier – Chefchaouen
Leaving Tangier at around 9am, we head away from the busy coastal cities and into the Rif Mountains.
The scenery changes quickly as we leave the main roads behind and begin climbing through northern Morocco towards Chefchaouen, one of the country’s most distinctive towns.
Known for its blue-painted streets, mountain setting and relaxed atmosphere, Chefchaouen gives us a much better introduction to Morocco than heading straight into one of the larger modern cities.
We will have plenty of time to explore the old medina, enjoy the cafés, wander through the narrow streets and take in the views across the surrounding mountains.
Later in the day we will regroup and make our way to our overnight stop in the Chefchaouen area.
This should feel like the point where the trip really starts to become a Moroccan adventure.
Day 8 – 6th December 2026 Chefchaouen – Fez / Middle Atlas
Today we leave Chefchaouen and continue south through northern Morocco towards Fez.
Rather than spending the day on fast roads, the aim is to take in more of the countryside, smaller towns and rural areas along the way.
Fez is one of Morocco’s great historic cities and has a very different feel from the modern commercial centres. Its ancient medina, narrow streets, markets and traditional buildings give you a real sense of the country’s history and culture.
Depending on timings, we will either spend time exploring Fez or continue further south towards the Middle Atlas, positioning ourselves for the following day’s drive towards Marrakech.
The route will begin to take us through more mountainous terrain, with forests, higher ground and some fantastic scenery.
Tonight’s stop will be in the Fez or Middle Atlas area, depending on the final route and timings.
Day 9 – 7th December 2026 Fez / Middle Atlas – Marrakech
Today sees us continuing south through some of the most varied scenery of the trip.
Our route takes us through the Middle Atlas, passing towns such as Ifrane and Azrou, along with forests, mountain roads and traditional villages.
This is the sort of driving the Land Rovers are made for, with constantly changing scenery and a much more remote feel than the large coastal cities.
As we continue south, the landscape gradually changes again as we head towards Marrakech.
We will arrive later in the day and make our way to our overnight camp at Rouler Campsite.
By the time we reach Marrakech, we will already have experienced the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen, Fez, rural Morocco and the Middle Atlas — making Marrakech feel like the next chapter of the journey rather than the first real taste of the country.
Day 10. 8th December 2026 Marrakesh-Rest Day
Today follows the same format as our previous city stops. There will be a guide on hand to show us round the city or you are welcome to fly solo and meet us back at our evenings campsite. Marrakech has an energy all its own (there’s a reason it’s one of Morocco’s most well-visited cities). To get right to the heart of things, wind your way through its busy Medina—the walled, historic neighbourhood that serves as the city’s main square. Fair warning, it can be a bit intense, but while there, you can fully immerse yourself browsing souks for local wares, taking in the Moorish architecture, and filling up on street food. On the slower end of things, places like Le Jardin Secret, Bahia Palace, and the famed technicolor Jardin Majorelle give some breathing room alongside seriously gorgeous scenery
Day 11. 9th December 2026. Marakesh-Erg Zahar( Sand Dunes)
We have an experienced local desert guide meeting us and allow us to follow them off road for approximately 50 km so we can spend a couple of days in the desert. Travelling for a couple of hours into the heart of the desert we will set up a wild camp near the Dunes of Erg Zahar . There will be food and water available all provided for us by a local company that specialize in operating desert camping trips. We will all get the chance to participate in sand-bread baking. Day 12. 10th December 2026 Erg Zahar-Erg Chigaga(Remote Sand Dune)
For our second day of camping in the desert, our guide will take us on a two hour drive over sand dunes to our next desert camp where there are showers, toilets and food tents serving us local food and traditional Moroccan Tea. Erg Chigaga is situated about 5 hours south of Marrakech. Chigaga is not a mainstream destination. It appeals to those seeking adventure, something unique, something off-grid. The camp is 50 miles off-road from the nearest town, M’Hamid. The ride to the camp requires a 4WD and takes you through sand, dried-out lakes and rocky terrain. Its location ensures there are no tour buses or mass tourism. More often than not you can climb to the top of the dunes and see no one. It offers perfect solitude and tranquillity, a real feel of being in Africa.
Day 13. 11th December 2026 Erg Chigaga-Errachidia 250 Miles
After enjoying a hearty breakfast we will depart Erg Chigaga and follow our guide from the past couple of days for approximately 40 miles back to the main road the N9 and head towards Errachidia. Where we will stop to get some food and refreshments then continue to tonight’s campsite. We will be camping at a fantastic campsite Ighiz Inn that has full amenities including a pool, showers and toilets. A selection of food and drink is available.
Day 14. 12th December 2026 Errachidia-Fez 220 Miles
Today we head North towards Fez along the N3 which winds its way through the desert before taking us to the Fez situated northwest of the Atlas Mountains, it is surrounded by hills and the old city is centered around the Fez River (Oued Fes) flowing from west to east. Fez has been called the “Mecca of the West” and the “Athens of Africa”. It is also considered the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco. I’m sure we will all have to purchase the obligatory Fez hat made popular by the late great Tommy Copper. After enjoying the afternoon/early evening in Fez we will head to our overnight campsite @ Le Diamant Vert
Day 15. 13th December 2026 Fez-Tangier-Gibraltar 190 Miles
Today is our last day in Morocco, we will leave camp and travel back to Tangier to catch our crossing at 4pm to Gibraltar. Arriving in Gibraltar at approximately 17.15 disembark our ferry and return to the same campsite we stopped at on our outbound journey on Day 4 which is 35 miles North of Gibraltar.
Day 16. 14th December Gibraltar-Merida 250 Miles
Over the next couple of days we will be covering slightly higher mileages as we are now on the homeward journey and need to make sure we get the miles behind us. Our return crossing from Santander to the UK port of Plymouth only runs on a Monday. This is the port we need to use to make insure the return crossing fits our itinerary. Today sees us start our day in Spain and start to work our way back up towards Santander. Travelling along the E-5 from Gibraltar we will pass Seville giving us the opportunity to spend the afternoon in this Spanish city that will capture your heart. Seville is renowned for its beautiful architecture, monuments, and flamenco dancers in the streets to the huge selection of tapas bars and restaurants. We will regroup at 4pm and depart Seville to continue on the E-803 to our overnight stop near Merida
Day 17 15th December Merida-Valladolid 255 Miles
We will be rejoining the E-803 and travel via Plasc On the Bank of the Jerte River, in the Extremadura province of Caceres, Plascencia has a historic quarter. The town was inhabited by Romans and Arabs until the 12th century. Plascencia’s Parador de Turismo (Inn) is located in an old convent, where visitors can enjoy the best food in Caceres in the most spectacular surroundings. After spending some time in this stunning town we continue to drive towards Valladolid via Salamanca The old city of Salamanca is now a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site with all of its beautiful Plateresque architecture including the 2 stunning cathedrals, the Catedral Vieja (Old Cathedral) and the Catedral Nueva (New Cathedral), an amazing 23 churches, beautiful palaces such as the exquisite privately-owned Palacio de Monterrey, well-preserved convents and monasteries including the Convento de San Esteban and several university colleges. Depart Salamanca at 6pm for our campsite near Valladolid.
Day 18. 16th December Valladolid-Bilbao 180 Miles
This should be a very easy day for us all after what has been an epic road trip to Africa & back, with only 200 miles between us and our return crossing. There will be plenty of time to stop along the route as we travel back along the N-61. Before arriving at Santander for a relaxing evening.
Day 19. 17th December 2026 Bilbao-Portsmouth. (Ferry Crossing)
This morning we will pack away our camping gear for the last time on this trip and make our way to the port for 10am to board our 1pm crossing to Portsmouth. Our homeward journey then continues as we sail across what we hope is a calm sea to Portsmouth, this is a 26 hr. crossing same as outward one at arriving around 5.30pm on the 20th
Day 20. 18th December. Arrive Portsmouth
Once disembarked we will say our final goodbyes and make our separate ways home after what has surely been an epic road trip of a lifetime.
This trip will help you make once in a lifetime memories, and hopefully make some new friends. This amazing overlanding road trip is £2989 per Vehicle including driver and one passenger. If you have more than one passenger please contact me for any additional prices. A deposit of £489 is required to secure your place with the balance due 8 weeks prior to your departure date. All trips are limited to a maximum number of 20 vehicles. Also Non Land Rover 4×4 vehicles are welcome to join us on this epic adventure.
Included in the trip cost are your ferry crossings both ways to and from the UK to Santander with overnight cabin. Your crossings to and from Gibraltar and Tangiers. All campsite fees are included, and the awesome two nights desert camping experience including evening meals, breakfast and entertainment. Food is only provided on the Desert camping nights.
We travel on roads without tolls. Should you decide to travel on an alternative route that has toll roads, please be aware that toll road fees are not included in the trip price. The trip includes all the guides for the city experiences at Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakech. All vehicles will be lent a two way radio so we can communicate whilst travelling in convoy.
