SOLIHULL TO SINGAPORE 2028
THE FINAL OVERLANDER
80 Days. 80 Years of Land Rover. One Extraordinary Overland Expedition.
Departing Solihull – 28 April 2028
In 1948, Land Rover began a story that would change adventure travel forever.
In April 2028, to mark 80 years of Land Rover, Inspired-Tours plans to leave the home of Land Rover in Solihull and undertake one of the biggest adventures we have ever organised.
Solihull to Singapore. Overland.
Around 80 days on the road – one day for every year of Land Rover.
This won’t be another European road trip.
This will be The Final Overlander.
A TRUE OVERLAND EXPEDITION
Unlike many of our normal Inspired-Tours trips, this expedition will be undertaken as a group.
The aim is to recreate some of the spirit of the great original overland journeys: travelling together, supporting each other, dealing with the challenges along the way and ultimately arriving in Singapore as one expedition.
There will be long driving days, border crossings, unfamiliar roads, different cultures and undoubtedly occasions when things don’t go exactly to plan.
That is all part of what makes a genuine overland journey an adventure.
This trip is aimed at people who want to look back and say:
“I drove from Solihull to Singapore.”
THE PROPOSED JOURNEY
Our detailed route is still being developed and will continue to evolve as we investigate border requirements, visas, permits and logistics.
The current expedition concept takes us from:
Solihull → Europe → Turkey → Central Asia → China → South East Asia → Singapore
Along the way, we expect to experience an enormous range of landscapes, cultures and driving conditions.
From European roads and mountain passes to the vast open landscapes of Central Asia and onwards through Asia towards our final destination in Singapore.
The exact route is deliberately not being described as fixed at this stage. An expedition of this scale has to remain adaptable as regulations, borders and international travel conditions change.
WHY 80 DAYS?
Land Rover was first revealed to the world in 1948.
In 2028, Land Rover celebrates its 80th anniversary.
Our aim is to mark that anniversary with an 80-day expedition – one day for every year of Land Rover history.
And where better to begin than Solihull, the place synonymous with the Land Rover story?
NOT A CONVOY HOLIDAY
This is not intended to be 20 or 30 vehicles racing across countries trying to keep together.
Vehicle numbers will be strictly limited.
Keeping the expedition relatively small will make border crossings, accommodation, parking, group movement and the inevitable unexpected situations considerably easier to manage.
More importantly, it should allow the group to actually get to know one another.
For around 80 days, the people taking part will effectively become an expedition team.
WHAT KIND OF VEHICLE?
The expedition is being created primarily with Land Rover owners in mind.
Classic Defender, Discovery, Range Rover or later models – what matters most is that the vehicle is properly prepared, mechanically sound and capable of completing a major international overland journey.
Detailed vehicle preparation requirements will be provided well before departure.
This is not intended to be an extreme off-road challenge, but vehicles and drivers will need to be prepared for a huge variety of roads, conditions and environments.
WHAT WILL THE 80 DAYS BE LIKE?
Some days will simply be about covering distance.
Other days will give us time to explore, recover, maintain vehicles and enjoy where we are.
Accommodation will vary depending on the country and location. The aim is to create a sensible mix that keeps the expedition comfortable enough to remain enjoyable while retaining the feeling of a genuine overland journey.
This isn’t meant to be five-star luxury for 80 days.
Neither is it intended to be an endurance test.
The goal is to create an adventure that sits somewhere in between.
PROJECTED TRIP COST
An expedition of this scale involves considerably more planning and logistics than any normal Inspired-Tours trip.
We are currently calculating accommodation, support, border arrangements, permits, administration and the many other costs associated with moving a group across multiple countries.
At this stage, the anticipated expedition price is:
Approximately £19500 per vehicle
This figure is currently a projected price rather than a final quotation.
The full price and exactly what is included will be confirmed before deposits are requested.
SECURING A PLACE
Because places will be very limited, we expect to open bookings initially to people who have already registered their interest.
When bookings open, we currently anticipate a:
£3,000 deposit per vehicle
to secure a place on the expedition.
The deposit reflects the scale of advance planning and commitment required for an 80-day international journey.
You are not being asked to pay anything simply by registering your interest.
At this stage we simply want to identify the owners who are genuinely considering joining us.
WHO IS THIS TRIP FOR?
You don’t need to be an experienced world traveller.
But you do need to understand that this will be very different from a normal holiday.
There will be early mornings.
There will be long days.
There will be borders and paperwork.
There will probably be mechanical problems somewhere along the route.
There may be occasions when plans need to change at short notice.
And there will almost certainly be moments when we wonder why on earth we thought driving from Solihull to Singapore was a sensible idea.
Those will probably also be the stories we remember afterwards.
