RIDE THE DRAGON’S SPINE

Wales Motorcycle Camping Tour

1st–6th August 2027

6 Days. 5 Nights Camping. £379 Per Bike. Start & Finish in South Wales. Maximum Daily Mileage: Approx. 125 MilesSix days. Five nights. Around 700 miles of some of the best motorcycle roads Wales has to offer. Ride the Dragon’s Spine is a brand-new Inspired-Tours motorcycle camping adventure taking us from the mountains of South Wales to the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast, north along Cardigan Bay and into Eryri/Snowdonia before returning through the Cambrian Mountains and Elan Valley. And because this is a circular tour, we finish back in South Wales close to where the adventure began. We have deliberately designed the trip with relatively short daily distances of approximately 100–125 miles. This isn’t about spending all day chasing mileage. It’s about having time to stop for coffee, enjoy lunch, take photographs, explore viewpoints and experience some fantastic Welsh motorcycle roads.

THIS IS NOT A CONVOY

Like our other Inspired-Tours adventures, Ride the Dragon’s Spine is not a guided convoy.

You will receive the planned daily route and destination information. Ride individually, with friends or naturally form a small group with other riders. Stop when you want. Have coffee when you want. Take photographs. Explore somewhere that catches your eye. Then meet back up with everyone at the campsite that evening. It gives you the freedom of an independent motorcycle adventure with the organisation and social atmosphere of travelling as part of an Inspired-Tours group.

Llandovery has long been popular with motorcyclists and makes a natural place to stop for our first coffee or lunch of the trip.

From here we continue west through Carmarthenshire and into Pembrokeshire.

The final section brings us towards St Davids and the spectacular Pembrokeshire coastline before reaching our first campsite.

Day two is our main Welsh west-coast riding day.

Leaving the St Davids/Newgale area, we head towards Fishguard before continuing north towards Cardigan.

From Cardigan we’ll follow some fantastic coastal roads towards New Quay and Aberaeron, with Cardigan Bay accompanying us for much of the day.

With around 115 miles planned, there is no need to rush.

Stop beside the coast, find a café, grab some lunch or simply enjoy the views before continuing towards Aberystwyth.

Today the landscape changes dramatically as we leave the coast and start heading towards the mountains of North Wales.

Leaving Aberystwyth, we ride towards Machynlleth, continuing north through spectacular Mid Wales scenery.

From there we’ll head towards Dolgellau and Barmouth before turning towards Beddgelert and entering Eryri/Snowdonia.

Tonight is also slightly different because we’re staying here for two nights.

Pitch your tent this evening and tomorrow morning you can leave the camping equipment behind for our full North Wales riding day.

Tonight we pitch once — and stay for two nights.

DAY 4 – ERYRI, HORSESHOE PASS NORTH WALES LOOP

Wednesday 4th August 2027

Approx. 120–125 Miles

This could be the headline riding day of the entire trip.

No tent to pack.

No camping luggage to carry.

Just the bike and some fantastic North Wales roads.

Leaving our Beddgelert base, we’ll build a circular route through some of the best riding country in Eryri and North Wales.

The planned route takes in areas including:

Beddgelert

Llanberis Pass

Llanberis

Ogwen Valley

Capel Curig

Betws-y-Coed

Bala

and one of the most famous motorcycle roads in Wales…

We’ll ride the spectacular A542 Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen, a road that has been a favourite with motorcyclists for generations.

At the summit we’ll take in the famous Ponderosa location and viewpoint, historically one of North Wales’ best-known motorcycle meeting points.

The former Ponderosa Café is currently closed, so our food/coffee stop will be planned elsewhere on the day’s route unless the venue has reopened before our 2027 tour.

From Horseshoe Pass we’ll continue through North Wales before returning to Beddgelert.

And best of all…

Your tent is already waiting for you.

🏍️ Approx. 120–125 miles

⛺ NIGHT 4 – CAE DU CARAVAN & CAMPING PARK, BEDDGELERT

Second night at the same campsite.

No tent packing this morning and no setting it back up tonight.

DAY 5 – ERYRI TO ELAN VALLEY

Thursday 5th August 2027

Approx. 120 Miles

After two nights in North Wales, we begin our journey south.

Leaving Beddgelert, we head towards Bala before entering the much quieter and increasingly remote roads of Mid Wales.

The route will take us through the Cambrian Mountains towards Rhayader.

This is a very different style of riding to the previous day.

Open landscapes.

Remote roads.

Rolling mountains.

Very little traffic.

Our destination is the spectacular Elan Valley, famous for its reservoirs, dams and dramatic Mid Wales scenery.

There will be time to explore some of the reservoir roads before reaching our campsite.

⛺ NIGHT 5 – ELAN OAKS, RHAYADER

The site has a large riverside camping field together with modern shower and washing facilities.

A great location for our final evening together.

DAY 6 – ELAN VALLEY TO SOUTH WALES

Friday 6th August 2027

Approx. 110 Miles

Our final morning doesn’t mean the riding is over.

We’ve still got another fantastic Welsh route ahead of us.

Leaving the Elan Valley, we head through Rhayader and towards Abergwesyn.

From here we’ll follow some superb Mid Wales roads south towards Llandovery.

Llandovery gives us another opportunity for a café or lunch stop before the final section of our journey.

We’ll then ride back through Bannau Brycheiniog before finishing in the South Wales/Brecon area where our adventure began six days earlier.

It’s a proper final riding day rather than simply packing the tent away and heading straight home.
